During the past few weeks CMA CGM SAHARA was docked and undergoing changes at The Cernaval Shipyard in San Roque, Spain. The ship was renamed, formerly known as CMA CGM NICOLAS DELMAS and was reflagged to Morocco with a new port name of Tanger.
On 15 December 2024, tug boats assisted in pulling it out for its onward journey. Not losing any time between the docking, it was quickly replaced by CMA CGM NADOR, a container ship.
Tug boats, VB ANDALUCIA, VB SIMUN, and VB ALGECIRAS were on the scene pushing the container ship in when I arrived. The sound of the engines of the tugboats, and their brute force is quite impressive. It’s also an interesting experience watching how they all work together to move such a massive object.
After the tugboats sailed off, an Algeciras pilot boat, GETARES UNO came speeding over to collect its pilot. The pilots are necessary for navigating the waters around the ports as they are knowledgable and trained as to the conditions of the sea in the area.
Here are some pictures of these tugboats that are based out of the Port of Algeciras. Be sure to check out the video of the tugs doing their work on SHIPS at THE STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR on YouTube.
